Empowering Migrant Workers for a Sustainable Future: Upskilling and Reskilling for Green and Digital Jobs
EU-Programme: Policy experimentations. Erasmus. Adult education.
Coordination: SOLETERRE (Italy )
Duration: April 2025 – September 2027
Web:
The green and digital transitions are opening up new opportunities for both individuals and the EU economy. The growing demand for green and digital skills in Europe and the labour shortages caused by demographic shifts, create a strategic need for upskilling and reskilling programs and for investments on the skills and potential of foreign workers residing in the continent.
The EMERALD project will connect countries across Europe to address the green and digital skills demand by designing upskilling and reskilling pathways specifically designed for migrant citizens. The creation of a collaborative framework between public and private actors – the re-skilling labs – will be the main tool to address the different and sometimes conflicting needs of both employers and migrant workers. Though this strategy, EMERALD wants to answer the skills gap related to double transition and support the social transition toward a more equitable and inclusive labour market (triple transition).
WHAT WE DO:
Promote up-skilling and re-skilling of migrant workers in the green and digital economy through public/private partnership models.
FOR WHOM AND WHERE:
Migrant workers and unemployed migrants in need of up-skilling or re-skilling, with interest in acquiring green or digital skills in Italy, Spain, Croatia, France, Belgium, and Bulgaria.
OBJECTIVES:
- Develop a validated Public-Private collaborative model for upskilling and re-skilling migrant workers in green and digital sectors;
- Increase the employability of migrant workers and unemployed migrants through inclusive training opportunities focused on green and digital skills and tailored support;
- Support a threefold transition (green, digital, and social) through the dissemination and replication of the public-private collaborative model for up-skilling/re-skilling of vulnerable populations.
