Employability and transversal skills delivery for young disadvantaged learners through innovative upcycling methods and approaches
EU-Programme: Erasmus+, KA2, Strategic Partnerships for adult education
Coordination: Springboard Opportunities Limited (United Kingdom)
Duration: September 2014 – August 2016
All across Europe, youth unemployment rates are alarmingly high and still rising. Among the young unemployed, those with low qualification levels are at risk of social exclusion, sometimes for the rest of their lives. Innovative solutions from adult education and VET providers are desirable, in order to provide new educational concepts, focusing on the empowerment of low-qualified young adults for efficient, practical, motivational and joyful acquisition of employability skills. The majority of teachers, trainers and counsellors in the European countries are not sufficiently equipped with respective approaches and instruments.
Aims
UPDESIGN aims to equip adult education and VET providers, as well as staff working with disadvantaged people and low-level educated young adult learners, who lack qualifications and skills sufficient to (re)enter the labour market, with innovative methods and tools for the enhancement of basic and employability skills, entrepreneurial spirit and motivational training. The Project intends to embed the aforementioned in the thematic area of design and based on the idea of upcycling.
Partners and Outputs
A partnership of six VET providers, innovation experts, adult education and research organisations from UK, Italy, Spain, Greece and Austria, will develop the following outputs:
- UPDESIGN Curriculum
- UPDESIGN Teaching and Training Handbook
- UPDESIGN Toolkit with teaching and learning materials
